July 24th, 2008

I got  decent nights sleep but awoke early and started working on getting some blog entries written.  Things have been so busy here it is hard to keep caught up.   I was told last night that Allie had made an appointment for me today to met with the people I bought the property here from.  The son Eric is to meet me at the base between 11:30 and 12:00 this morning.  We had breakfast of toast and eggs and I got back to writing.  I worked on the blog entries until about 11:05 and left the masonette to deliver some things to Kennedy that he had me carry back from Kisumu.  I took them to him and made my way to the base.  The roads are very muddy from the rains last night and he mud here is sticky as glue from all the clay.  I waited there a bit and no one showed up so I asked George (the grounds keeper) if he had seen Eric Okatch?  He said they stopped by that morning and said they were going to be back to meet me. After waiting some more I decided to go to their house to see if they were there.  Mildred, (Mr. Okatch’s wife)
Was the only one there so I talked with her.  She said they were downtown at a house they own and would not be back until 4:00PM.  I wish they had told me that.  I got the phone number of Mr. Okatch and went to the van to call.  As I was loading the number in the phone I hear a voice from the road making remarks of how there were too many white people here.  I looked and it was a friend Steve Cochran and a group of people from his church on their way to a widows project. It was the first time I saw him since I got here as her had been picking up the team from his home church in Nashville.  We small talked a bit and then went our separate ways.  I contacted Mr. Okatch and talked to Eric to find out when we could meet.  He agreed to stop over at ICIPE on the way back up to his house and call me from the guard booth later that day.
I returned to the masonette in ICIPE and spent the day getting more blog entries written.  Later that afternoon we had a board meeting with Don and Nancy, Pastor Gombe and myself to go over the future plans for SEEK.  We also talked about the local people that would be involved and prayed for God to give us some word about their placement.  It was really good to hear how everyone confirmed each others feelings about things and there was a great amount of unity.  It was really cool when we prayed about a couple that wanted to come in and work with the community here that I felt they should live in the house we are going to live in when we get here.  Don and Nancy were wondering how I felt about it but God had already told me that’s what should happen.  I even said that I felt God saying to me here are the caretakers for the place and to tell them to come and bring their goats!!  Don looked at me and said he got the same word which was strange because he really doesn’t care much about goats.  Eric Okatch called a bit later and we closed the meeting.
I met Eric and we went to have some sodas and talk about things.  He said he knew where the property markers were and would be glad to show me in the morning. I asked him whether there were stones as Ben had told me the day before or stakes as I was told by others.  He confirmed that stakes were put down and that Ben was in the house talking to Mr. Okatch when the surveyor was doing the work.  I left him to return home and went back to the masonette.  From there I took Jared and Hezron to the base as that is where they will be staying from now on and they were excited to have their own place.
I came back to the masonette and we had dinner of chapati, green grams and sakuma wiki.  IT was a good meal and Don and I did dishes afterward.  I am told tomorrow is Mexican so I am really looking forward to it (it is probably my favorite kind of food).  I stayed up and talked with Don, Nancy and Leah until it was time to get to bed (Allie had already gone to bed).  Tomorrow I meet with Eric to find the corners on our property.  Looks like we may be making some headway.
