Raising small animals for food and profit is, in my opinion, one of the highest income potential yet most underutilized enterprizes in underdeveloped countries. The beauty of small animals is the diversity of feeds that can be used as well as good feed conversion. The space for production is small. The individual unit price is within the range of an average household. Reproduction is typically high rate and short term. Storage costs are all but eliminated as they can be sold live and harvested at the time of consumption. It is also an animal that can be managed by any member of the family. |
