Morning Star Fishermen was founded in 1993. We train missionaries and other people how to raise fish and use the waste water from the fish to grow vegetables. We also do research and development in aquaculture. Hans Geissler has been married to Sigrid Geissler for 40 years and has 2 daughters and 7 grandchildren. He has served as a soldier in the French Foreign Legion in Africa, worked as a successful plumbing contractor, won state and national titles in competitive spearfishing, and built over 2000 multihull sailboats marketed under the brands of G-Cat and G-Force.

Our Mission Statement...
Provide support for those people who are most in need,
following Jesus's example.
AND
Attain sustainability and teach others to do the same.

world map
The World Health Organization estimates nearly one third of the earth's population suffers from hunger and malnutrition. For some, it's just another mind-numbing statistic, an unfortunate fact of life. For others, those millions represent nothing more than nameless faces. Of course there are those of us who realize that they are not just statistics, but real people who are held captive by starvation and poverty.

With all the technology at our disposal,
why is there no permanent solution for starving people?

At Morning Star Fishermen we have found a solution. Through the use of
Tilapia, St. Peters Fish,we teach people here and around the world to grow their own protein and to use the by-products to grow vegetables in organic gardens. Every year we train teachers to educate entire communities to develop an ecologically sound, sustainable food source and by doing so, overcome the blight of hunger and malnutrition. This will eventually allow them to share this knowledge with others. The technology we've developed is real. It's not some farfetched, implausible dream.

Morning Star Fishermen can save lives now,
but we need your help to do so.

Morning Star Fishermen
We are a faith based 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization with the mission to help make the world a better and healthier place, by fighting world hunger through education and training. Our primary mission and goal is to build fish farms and training centers to teach the needy how to raise fish and vegetables for themselves. This approach permanently provides an ongoing supply of nutritious food grown by and for each specific community.

Our Fish of Choice is the Tilapia (St. Peter's Fish), one of the most popular fish around the world today. It grows very fast on low protein food, reproduces easily, and is resistance to disease and shock that far exceeds that of most food fish. In addition, tilapia is a very tasty MSF: Motto fish that is high in nutrients and has also shown to be very resistant to contaminants, such as mercury poisoning which is found in many other fish today.

Breaking the Cycle of Hunger Through Aquaculture
Malnutrition is a serious problem in many areas of the world. This is usually due to the unavailability of low cost protein sources. Aquaculture of herbivorous fish provides an excellent, affordable, protein source that can be produced by local fish farms. In addition, wastewater from the fish can be used to raise aquaponic vegetables which in turn can feed the fish, or provide a valuable source of vitamins to the malnourished people. This sustainable environmentally friendly system makes a permanent difference in many lives by giving the malnourished their own source of nutrition, which can be controlled and maintained by a family or community, making them independent and giving them control over their nutritional needs and future.

Morning Star Fishermen
We are located on 10 acres in Dade City, Florida, 25 miles north east of the Tampa. Our dormitory houses 16 students. Our main hatchery and training building has over 110,000 gallons of tank space, wet labs and classrooms. Other facilities include 60,000 gallons of enclosed exterior tanks as well as fully integrated "model" solar and wind powered aquaponics systems. Students of all ages and backgrounds coming to our Dade City Training and Research Center are encouraged to serve their fellow man and value this learning in our hands-on setting. Their studies involve integrated combinations of eight main areas. These include: working with various, appropriate technologies; breeding; feeding; managing waste; maximizing growth; gardening; weeding; and general maintenance.
