Tilapia Brood House

This is the brood house we have put together to house our primary breeders. There are 5 IBC totes converted to tanks where each of the brood groups will be kept. Half barrels on top of the tanks are for growing aquatic plants and the small tanks on the front are "fry catchers". These are experimental and newly developed by Travis Hughey. They are basically skimmers that we hope to trap the fry as they come near the surface when a light is hung over the skimmer. We will see how they work. The fish kept in here are pure strains of tilapia from which we will maintain and develop the broodstock for hybrid fingerlings. Once we get the program started we hope to fill a niche market of small quantities of tilapia fingerlings for small growers. This will hopefully be one of the ways we can generate income for our work in various parts of the world.
